Practice Information

Practices are organized by age groups and ability.  The Head Coach will be on the deck coordinating the practice with 2-3 assistant coaches in the water. We ask that swimmers arrive at practice 15 minutes prior to their start time in order to participate in stretching.
Regular attendance at practice is an important part of becoming a successful and confident swimmer.  However, we realize that vacations, summer camps and other special events are just as important.  If at all possible, please let your coaches know when you will be absent.  If you have any questions or concerns about what goes on during practices, please speak to one of the coaches when they are not coaching.

Regular Season Practices

Swimmers can choose to attend morning or evening practices during the season. All swimmers must swim with their appropriate age group unless authorized by the Head Coach.

Swim meets are held on Wednesday nights at 6pm. Swimmers should plan to be at the pool for warm-ups at 4:30pm for home meets and 5pm for away meets. There will be no Thursday morning practice following a meet.

Fun Friday is an optional time of games and fun with the coaches and is held on the Lake Monticello Main Beach at 8:15 – 9:15 AM every Friday (June 18 – July 23, 2020). Swimmers should dress in regular clothes as no swimming is involved.

The Practice Schedule for the week of Champs (July 20 – 23) will be determined at a later date, but it is often the same as the regular season.

Lake Monticello’s management and pool employees follow the recommendations of the Red Cross and the National Lightning Safety Institute in their guidelines referring to pool safety in the event of thunder and lightning. Their policy is that the pool must be cleared for thirty minutes after thunder is heard.  You may remain on deck until lightning is seen during this time.  At the first sign of lightning the pool deck must be cleared.  No one will be allowed back on deck until thirty minutes after the last instance of thunder or lightning is observed.

The pool manager is ultimately responsible for requiring the clearing of the deck, keeping the time since the last event, and allowing the return of swimmers to the deck.  All pool staff are responsible for initiating warnings for thunder and lightning, the clearing of the pool deck, and in assisting in the return of swimmers to the pool deck upon the completion of the elapsed time. There is shelter to be had under the deck of the main clubhouse next to the pool, with the possibility of waiting out the storm in the bottom level of the clubhouse.  If room is not available we would suggest returning to your vehicles.
